ABS Brake Cylinder Inspection Tool

Challenge:
A customer manufactures equipment used to inspect the bore and stroke of truck ABS brake cylinders. The control system needs precise position control of the ABS cylinder, and also needs to report statistical process information to a host computer.

Solution:
A linear ballscrew stage positions the part near an inspection gauge. Servomotors are used for high throughput and built-in position feedback.  The gauge reports the bore and stroke as analog outputs. An operator interface (Model 3100) with built-in servo motion controller controls the stage.  A PC104-02 analog input card reads the response from the inspection gauge.  An Ethernet module routes the data to a remote PC which collects the process status.  One control language within the Model 3100 organizes and controls the entire machine operation.
